2018 Honda Civic Type R The Highest Performing Civic Version

Ever since Honda ceased the production of S2000, the company hasn’t really manufactured a true performance car for US market. The highest performance variant of Honda Civic, the Type R hasn’t ever made an appearance in the US. While Civic does have great sales, present model has received some criticism. If Civic Type R was to be imported to the States, it would certainly improve the credibility of Honda among enthusiasts. The upcoming model 2018 Honda Civic Type R can bring excitement to an otherwise conservative model.

2018 Honda Civic Type R - Attractive new Look

Belonging to the 10^th generation of the Civic model, the 2018 Civic Type R will be more refined and bigger, thanks to its new platform. This platform is also used in Honda Accord. While regular Civic will continue to be offered in its two-door coupe and five-door sedan body styles, the 2018 Honda Civic Type R will be offered in hatchback variant.

This upcoming model will have a few similarities with its previous model, although certain updates will include front fender vents, front bumper air curtains, dual lip spoilers, rear spoilers and side skirts. Both rear and front lighting will be modified as well. The Civic Type R will also have triple exhaust tips, which will be mounted at the center of its rear bumper. This gives the model a more aggressive look. It will also feature bigger wheels of 19 inches, which come with Brembo brake caliper. The final model is expected to have 13.7-inch discs on its front along with 4 piston calipers.

The cabin of 2018 Honda Civic Type R will resemble 10^th generation of this model. However, it will be a recognizable sporty interior with red accents along with aluminum inserts and carbon fiber. The sports bucket seats ensure comfort and safety. Digital read out can be available in Type R, with several similarities to the present model. A separate heated display and a large touch screen in center console will be available as well. This sporty interior will perfectly complement the excellent performance of this vehicle. 

Powertrain

Under the hood of the new Civic Type R, there will be a 2 liters 4-cylinder engine with turbocharging, Honda’s iVTEC variable valve timing and direct fuel injection. The power will be sent to front wheel via a 6-speed manual transmission unit. The total output is nearly 306 HP and a maximum torque of 295 lb-ft. (This is the output of present Type R). A new Dual Axis Strut Front Suspension will be offered in the 2018 Honda Civic Type R, which will help suppress torque steer. As far as fuel consumption is concerned, it will supposedly be reduced for 2018 model.

Arrival, Price and Competitors

The 2018 Honda Civic Type R will arrive after at least a year of standard model’s arrival. Expected release date of this model is early 2017 with approximately $35,000 price tag. This model will have to fight against some competitors. The main rivals of this model will include Golf R, Volkswagen GT, and 2018 Nissan Z. It will be interesting to see whether Honda is able to capitalize the upcoming market or not.
